When we first see the eponymous star of Deadpool, he's busy photo-bombing other, better-known superheroes. That sums it up. While he looks and moves like a super-powered mercenary, Deadpool is a deranged, mischievous and post-modern character. The "merc with the mouth" frequently refers to being in a videogame and speaks directly to the players. We follow him on a dangerous mission, ostensibly to catch a media mogul in what seems like a deadly but noble mission. Deadpool is a frantic, violent hack-and-slash game with a wicked and sometimes offensive sense of humour. There are plenty of sword- and gunfights, and our hero can teleport during brawls. Some jokes get repeated too often and the gameplay can get a little one-note: Plenty of game time is spent mowing through anonymous henchmen. One wishes the combat had more variation and complexity, but there's still enough wit, energy and attitude to make it worthwhile.
